Since I try make most of our meals from scratch, by far, the hardest part of cooking is the planning for the cooking.
I love to cook so it comes as no surprise that the actual cooking is usually very enjoyable for me. But setting the plans in motion to make sure there is something FOR me to cook is the boring and lame part. Its ensuring that you have something out of the freezer or a plan for the ingredients in your fridge so that when you’re home from work your only option isn’t frozen pizza. I menu plan a little bit, or try to, but I also stay flexible because I like to get inspired by ingredients or recipes that I come across.
… I am laughing at myself as I type that, I am such a nerd.For me, my back pocket meal is a stir fry with this Easy Stir Fry Sauce. Some type of protein (usually leftovers, or else something grilled from frozen #reallife), rice and a bag of frozen stir fry veggies makes for a delicious and healthy meal made in about 20 minutes. You can’t go wrong.
This Easy Stir Fry Sauce is made to order so no more mouldy bottles to pull out of your fridge 6 months later from that one time you had teriyaki beef however long ago.
… Ermmm. Maybe that’s just me.
Anyways, this sauce is made with pantry staples that don’t really go bad. So even if you’re not like me and have five different types of vinegars in your pantry at any given time, you can invest in these ingredients and keep them hanging around for a while for whenever you need a quick meal. WIN! Plus, it takes more time to search through you hideously disorganized pantry to find all the ingredients than it does to actually make this sauce.
… Ermmm. Maybe that’s just me again.This sauce easily serves 3-4 but if would like more than that, or a more saucy stir fry, simply double the recipe!
- ¼ cup low sodium soy sauce
- 2 tbsp. maple syrup
- 1 tbsp. rice wine vinegar
- 1 tsp. sesame oil
- dash of hot pepper sauce, such as Tabasco
- 1 tbsp. corn starch
- Whisk together all ingredients.
- Pour over prepared stir fry and allow to simmer 1-2 minutes until thickened. Mix thoroughly to coat the stir fry mixture.
